Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams, typically consisting of nine players each. The game is played on a diamond-shaped field, with four bases arranged in a square. The objective is to score runs by hitting a pitched ball and running around the bases to return to home plate.

The game consists of two main phases: batting and fielding. One team bats, attempting to hit the ball thrown by the opposing team’s pitcher, while the other team fields, trying to catch or retrieve the ball and prevent runs from being scored. A run is scored when a player successfully makes it around all the bases and returns to home plate.

Baseball is governed by a set of rules known as the Official Baseball Rules and is known for its terminology, including strikes, balls, and outs. The sport is notably popular in the United States and is often referred to as America’s pastime, but it is played and enjoyed in many countries worldwide. The game can be played at both amateur and professional levels, with Major League Baseball (MLB) representing the top tier of professional baseball in the U.S. and Canada.
