Airports

Airports are designated facilities where air traffic—both passenger and cargo—takes place. They consist of runways for aircraft takeoff and landing, taxiways for aircraft movement, and terminal buildings where passengers can check in, board, and disembark from flights. Airports enable the operation of commercial airlines, private aviation, and cargo operations, serving as vital links in transportation and logistics networks. They often include services and amenities such as parking, restaurants, retail shops, and customs facilities. Airports can vary in size from small regional locations accommodating a few flights per day to large international hubs serving millions of passengers annually. Each airport typically has a unique code for identification, known as the IATA code.
