Football

Football refers to a team sport played primarily with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players each. The objective is to score goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. While the term “football” can refer to different sports in various parts of the world, it commonly denotes association football (known as soccer in some countries, like the United States and Canada), which is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

In association football, players use their feet, head, and body (excluding arms and hands) to maneuver the ball, passing, dribbling, and shooting to score. The game is played on a rectangular field, with a goal at each end. The match consists of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a half-time interval.

The term can also pertain to other variations of football, such as American football, rugby football, and Australian rules football, each with its own set of rules and gameplay. However, when referred to simply as “football,” it most often implies association football, which is one of the most popular and widely played sports across the globe.
